In 2008 St. John’s made a commitment to get to know the people of Kayoro, Uganda and help them build a clinic. When faced with seemingly overwhelming needs beyond our ability or capacity to affect, we need to just choose to do “one good thing.” In partnership with Give Us Wings, a small international development nonprofit, St. John’s raised the funds needed to build St. John’s Kayoro Health Centre II, which opened its doors in January 2012.
Initially, our goal was simply to build a clinic. But it quickly evolved into building relationships, getting to know the people of Kayoro and understanding their lives. That, in turn, led to a commitment to support and expand the work of the clinic. Members of St. John’s regularly travel to Uganda and are hosted by families in Kayoro. We labor alongside them and pray with them. Lasting change is being brought to all of us as we learn about resilience and faithfulness in the face of hardship.
Travelers from St. John’s will again be visiting Kayoro from July 27-August 6. They hope to bring much needed supplies to the clinic:
- prenatal vitamins
- folic acid, magnesium, and/or iron supplements
- allergy tablets
- sanitary napkins
- KY Jelly
Please leave donations in the Gathering Space by July 16.
We also invite you to pray with our travelers as they prepare for their journey to our neighbors on the other side of the world.
Almighty God, look with favor upon these persons who have reaffirmed their commitment to follow Christ and to serve in his name. Give them courage, patience, and vision; and strengthen us all in our Christian vocation of witness to the world, and of service to others; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
O God, our heavenly Father, whose glory fills the whole creation, and whose presence we find wherever we go: Preserve those who travel; surround them with your loving care; protect them from every danger; and bring them in safety to their journey’s end; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
