The Music Director Search Committee is delighted to announce that St. John’s has called its next Music Director, Jayson Engquist. A Minnesota native, Jayson hails from Fairmont in the southwestern part of the state. He attended St. Olaf College, where he studied organ with Bob Kendall, who also served as St. John’s organist and choirmaster. Jayson even substituted for Bob Kendall at St. John’s on occasion, and remained in contact with Bob and his wife Beth, although his graduate education took him to Yale University School of Music, and a career on the East Coast. He is an accomplished singer, having performed with the Dale Warland Singers, Yale Camarata and Repertory Chorus, and New York City’s St. Thomas Choir of Men and Boys. Jayson has worked in a variety of religious traditions, including the Episcopal Church, United Church of Christ, and Jewish synagogues. He possesses a warmth of spirit, personal humility, and delightful sense of humor that we will all come to know. Jayson plans to be with us at St. John’s in late August and in the following weeks we will have occasions to welcome him into our midst. The Music Director Search Committee wishes to thank everyone for their support and encouragement during this process. We are especially thankful for Nancy Wellington’s gracious service as our Interim Music Director.
