Palm & Passion Sunday – March 24th, Blessing of the Palms and Dramatic Reading of the Passion at 8:00 and 10:00 am.
At 10:00 there will be a festive procession with drums and hossanas from the gym to Summit Avenue and back into the church.
Morning Worship – Monday, March 25th through Friday, March 29th at 7:30 am in the Choir Stalls.
This will be a simple and short communion service with sermons preached by lay members of the congregation.
Maundy Thursday – March 28th at 7:00-8:00 pm in the Main Church.
A service of foot washing and remembering the Last Supper. Everyone is invited to participate in the foot washing. You may remain to keep vigil as long as you like.
Good Friday – March 29th at 12:00-2:30 pm and 7:00-8:00 pm in the Main Church.
At noon the Artaria String Quartet will present seven sonatas by Franz Joseph Haydn paired with short reflections on the seven last words of Christ offered by the St. John’s clergy. The noon service lasts between two and a half and three hours. You are welcome to come for all or part.
At 7:00 the service will be the Good Friday liturgy as found in the Book of Common Prayer (1979) with opportunities to receive communion from the reserved sacrament and to meditate on the meaning of the cross.
Easter Vigil – Saturday, March 30th at 7:00-8:30 pm in the Main Church.
Weather permitting we will gather on the corner of Kent and Portland and kindle the new fire of Easter and then process into the church. The vigil is a festive occasion wherein we hear the story of our faith from Old and New Testament, we recall our baptismal vows, and celebrate the first Eucharist of Easter. There will be festive reception after the service.
Easter Day – Sunday, March 31st at 8:00 am and 10:00 am in the Main Church.
10:00 am the Eucharist is a festival service with brass and fanfare, bells and shouts of alleluia.
