9am Sunday Faith Formation Hour for All
From womb to tomb, we are called into a deeper relationship with our God who first loved us. At St. John’s, we are making a subtle but important shift into creating a shared formation time for everyone. This fall, St. John’s will offer a Faith Formation Hour for All every Sunday morning at 9am.
Youth and adults: “Sharing Our Stories”
Beginning September 10
At Sharing Our Stories, we will be talking about our own stories in relation to the stories of the church. Every week, we’ll engage you with questions and ideas in the Friday email newsletter. Then on Sundays we’ll gather in the Fireside Room for a 10-minute lecture, followed by discussion, inquiry, and illumination. Youth and their mentors are also encouraged to attend.
Children age 5-6th grade: “Children’s Faith Connections”
Beginning September 17
At Children’s Faith Connections (CFC), kids will connect with each other, explore different ways to pray, deepen their family faith and spiritual life, and experience God’s love. Children will meet at 9am in the Gym, attend Godly Play, and rejoin their parents in worship in time for Eucharist. Click here to register your child.
Youth Ministry for grades 7-12
Wednesdays beginning September 13
Our youth ministry follows the Journey to Adulthood program. These weekly meetings for dinner and spiritual formation enable youth to experience a Christian community on a regular basis. Teens explore Biblical stories of God and God’s people, develop critical thinking skills for adulthood, and discern and carry out a ministry within their community. Meets at 6:30pm in the Gym Kitchen. Click here to register your youth.
Sundays, October 1-November 19
“The Basics” is an eight-week faith formation series that inspires us to live a balanced spiritual life, and offer a way for individuals to learn and grow in community at St. John’s. These classes tell the Christian story, teach how to read the Bible, and teach the basic Christian disciplines. They are offered to all, and required for parishioners marking a significant transition in the church (e.g. baptism, confirmation, membership, marriage). Meets at 11:30am in the Fireside Room. Lunch is served. To sign up, email Lea Anne Schmidt at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Building Bridges: Dialogue on Race Relations
We are going to take advantage of the momentum we’ve started with our summer Back Porch conversations, and continue our discussions about race this fall. We invite you to join us—to bravely speak and even more bravely listen, to confront what it means to be united in Christ in such a divided world, and to wrestle with our fears so that we can truly challenge and deepen our faith.
Topics will be:
September 17: Lives Matter
October 1: Race and Privilege
October 15: Race and Children
October 29: Immigration
November 12: Stand Your Ground
The meetings will be 11:30-2pm. We’ll continue using the Building Bridges process we used in the Back Porch series, with some fresh supplemental material. To give everyone a chance to speak, and to give the group time to delve deeply into the issues, the series will be capped at 12 participants and we ask you to commit to attending all 5 sessions. To sign up, contact Kate Bradtmiller at email@example.com.
