Parish Wide Lenten Reading

An Altar in the World: A Geography of Faith, a book by celebrated Episcopal preacher and teacher Barbara Brown Taylor is an enthusiastic choice for your Lenten reading. Taylor talks about what to DO to encounter the Sacred; walking, working, getting lost, carrying water, even feeling pain can be pathways. This volume has been used by dozens of parishes with great success; it’s time now for us. There will be several opportunities during Lent to gather and discuss what you find in this book. Paperbacks available in Barbara’s office and at the back of the church.  A check or cash for $12.00 is a welcome donation.

Faith in Action Reading during Lent

In Lent, all those working with Faith in Action are invited to read Toxic Charity: How Churches and Charities Hurt Those They Help (and How to Reverse It). This book will help us create a vision for our existing programs and future initiatives.
On Sunday, April 6, after the 10:00 am service, we will have an opportunity for group discussion about the book. Sandwiches will be provided. Please bring a dessert or salad to pass.
Copies of the book are available from The Reverend Kate Bradtmiller (651-228-1172, x18; kate.bradtmiller@stjohnsstpaul.org).
