Christmas Memorials & Honorary Donations
Honor a family member or mentor, or give in memory of a departed loved one with a gift towards the cost of the Christmas greens decorating the church. The names of all those honored will be included in the Christmas bulletins. Envelopes can be found in the pews. Place yours in the offering plate or drop it off at the church office by December 12.
Faith in Action:
YWCA Giving Tree through Dec 12
We are again sponsoring 14 families this year. Wish tags will be hanging on a Christmas tree at the back of the church. Select the tags you wish to fulfill (as many as you like), or donate funds to have others shop for you. Drop the unwrapped gifts off in the marked bin in the Gathering Space by Monday, December 12. The gifts will be wrapped in time for a Christmas celebration. Contact Sue Cadwell with questions at firstname.lastname@example.org.
This year for our all-parish Advent read, we invite everyone to join in following “Brother, Give Us a Word” online. In the early days of monasticism, a few faithful men and women went into the desert to seek God and live a life of prayer. They were spiritual beacons whom others sought out for their wisdom, approaching and asking, “Father (Mother), give me a word.” The Brothers of the Society of Saint John the Evangelist have adapted this ancient tradition for today, offering online a daily “word” to all who seek a deeper knowledge of God. You might use each day’s word as a focus for your prayer, to invite the Holy Spirit to speak to you through that word, or as a focus for meditative reading or lectio divina. We hope you’ll join us every day for a word, which we pray will help you to deepen your life with God. Click here to read each day’s word, or click to subscribe for daily emails.
Thursdays at 7pm: Compline
Join us on Thursday nights for a service of chanting and mystery. Incense will be present, as will the Holy Spirit.
Nov 27 at 11:30am: Advent Wreath Event
Gather in the Gym for an intergenerational event and make a fresh Advent wreath for your home this year. It’s free and all materials are provided. Everyone is welcome, both families and individuals of all ages. Refreshments will be served.
Dec 3 between 5-8:30pm: Christmas Party
St. John’s and Holy Apostles’ own Top Chefs will each prepare a small plate/hearty appetizer. Guests will stop and sample at each chef’s station and can mingle or relax with others at tables. Vegetarian, dairy free and gluten free choices will be available. Wine, beer and festive non-alcoholic drinks will be served. Guests will be asked to bring a favorite dessert to share. Drop in anytime between 5-8:30pm to enjoy good food and good companionship. Suggested donation $20/person (everyone is welcome regardless of ability to pay). RSVP at the ushers’ desk, in the gathering space, or at 651-228-1172 x10. If you have any questions about the party or want to volunteer as a chef or any other capacity, please email Becky Garthofner at email@example.com.

Dec 18 at 4pm: Lessons & Carols
We will present the annual Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols on Sunday afternoon, Dec. 18 at 4 p.m. Our adult, children’s, youth and handbell choirs will sing and ring. The Artaria String Quartet will be playing and accompanying on several pieces. Carols of the season will be sung and anthems by Max Reger, Hugo Distler, Ralph Vaughan Williams and others will be heard. This is a popular service and you are encouraged to come early for good seats. Invite your friends and neighbors to attend this gift of the season! Childcare is available. A festive reception and a blessing of the grand piano in the Fireside Room will follow.
